Businesses are an essential part of the coalition working to pass the Florida Competitive Workforce Act, legislation that would protect gay and transgender Floridians from discrimination. Some of Florida’s leading employers are stepping up not only because they believe in treating all people fairly, but because passing the FCWA will be good for business.
We’ve asked some of the members of the Florida Businesses for a Competitive Workforce Coalition why they’re standing up for the Florida Competitive Workforce Act and we’ll be sharing their answers with you here on our website in the coming weeks.
Bob O’Malley, CSX Vice President of State Governmental Affairs for Florida:
“One of our core values at CSX is ‘People Make the Difference.’ We practice this by treating each other with respect and dignity. In addition to encouraging each employee to be engaged and add value, this principle and our corporate policies allow us to attract the best talent. CSX is headquartered in Florida, and we support public policies that enhance our state’s economic competitiveness. We are proud to join other Florida employers in support of the Competitive Workforce Act.”
Having one uniform non-discrimination policy across the state will help businesses keep and attract top talent while avoiding the confusion caused by Florida’s current patchwork of county and municipal ordinances. Already, 61% of Fortune 500 companies – including some of Florida’s largest employers — have policies in place to prohibit discrimination against gay and transgender people.
Thanks to ALL of the businesses who are publicly supporting this critical legislation. You can read the growing list here.
